If you travel regularly to hot and dry places, you may find that your skin suffers as a result. Regular exposure to the sun, particularly in a range of more tropical climates than what we’re used to, can dry and even age our skin much quicker.
Though the last thing you want to be doing when you travel is worrying about how you look, it is important to be mindful about protecting your skin in the sun. Fortunately, it is possible to do this with the minimum amount of fuss.
Never Head out Without Applying Sun Cream
Even when you think there won’t be much sun on the day you intend to head out, get into the habit straight away of applying sun cream before you venture out on your travels. It doesn’t have to be sunny for you to experience the damaging effects of prolonged sun exposure on your skin so never be tempted to skip this when you travel. Implement it as part of a regular routine and top up frequently during the day. Also, take a bottle in your bag or rucksack with you when you leave your accommodation. A high SPF not only protects against skin damage but also against premature aging and works on keeping your skin moisturised as you travel.
Keep Yourself Hydrated Throughout the Day
Many travelers find that when they’re away in a foreign country far away from home, they don’t tend to drink as much water due to a fear of it being contaminated. This usually applies to those countries that are undeveloped and are well known for their unsafe drinking water, rather than those developed areas of the world. However, you can check online and find out whether the area you’re traveling to is a no-go for drinking from tap water before you travel. If your country is not affected, make sure you stay hydrated and keep your fluid intake up. A lack of fluids will show itself in your skin as dry, flaky, and dull, which is never a great look for those travel photos!
Pamper Your Face Overnight
Before you settle down for the night, make sure you wash and clean your face, riding of any dirt accumulated throughout the day and apply a generous amount of moisturiser to work overnight. This is primarily a good idea if you find your current climate drier or possibly the accommodations air con isn’t helping your skin. This will also make you feel more refreshed and wake up looking and feeling more revitalized the next day.
